Note: New cooktops may give off light smoke or a slight burning odor the first time they are used. It is a normal reaction, not a defect in the product or cause for alarm, as there are protective oils used during the manufacturing process that need to "burn" away.
As long as the temperature control knob is turned on, the electric hot plate will remain in the heating state. Do not place items other than cookware on the cooktop. The cooktop cycles on and off to maintain the setting temperature. Cooktop should be unplugged when not in use.
